XX DRESSES

Our Glass Project

Material

Silkscreen on Plywood, drawings, silkscreen on birch and risograph prints.

Description

This project was inspired by the XX female chromosome. Thinking about the shape of the chromosome and the female figure- typically an hour glass, I wanted to make a work that would pay tribute to the individual women in my life. Each dress is inspired by someone in my life, and the colours and patterns ( taken from envelope interiors) is a further personification of them. The work called Our Glass, is to take back the name of the shape not making it about ageing, or time but about ownership of the chromosome. The works were exhibited in Bolton as part of a group exhibition entitled "XX Marks the Spot" in September 2018. I have developed further works since.

Dates

June- December 2018
